ZIMO MX8S

Daylight signals

How is a ZIMO MX8S module with 32 individual functions, i.e., 32 LEDs for daylight signals, configured in TrainController?

Output of a circuit symbol

Mr. Freiwald writes about this in this post:

In TrainController, each output of a circuit symbol typically controls two contacts of the corresponding decoder. Therefore, the 16 outputs in TrainController for an MX8 can control 16 * 2 = 32 contacts.

Contacts 1 and 2 on the MX8 correspond to output 1 in TrainController.
Contacts 3 and 4 on the MX8 correspond to output 2 in TrainController.
 ...
Contacts 31 and 32 on the MX8 correspond to output 16 in TrainController.

Controlling outputs individually

To control individual LEDs, symbols for push buttons or on/off switches are used.

With these symbols, in addition to the address and the output (remember: one output corresponds to two contacts), you can select whether the symbol should control contact 1 or contact 2 of this pair. Two pushbuttons or on/off switches can therefore share one output (one contact pair).

If a signal controls only a single LED, you can specify which of the two contacts this is in the connection settings under the Connection tab, or deactivate the unused contact. Two such signals can thus share a single output of an address. Dr. Railroad will issue a warning, but this can be ignored if you know what you are doing.

In TrainController Gold, the two outputs of a symbol that occupies more than two contacts can also be freely assigned. The associated accessory can therefore be connected to any two pairs of contacts.

If the three or four contacts of a signal are completely unconnected, they must be individually controlled with pushbuttons or on/off switches, which in turn are indirectly linked to a signal symbol via signalmen. The signal symbol is then set to "No Connection." In this way, the signal symbol can indirectly control up to four LEDs, which can be arbitrarily distributed across the contacts of one or more MX8 modules. However, it is better to keep the wiring organized and to keep the contacts belonging to the same accessory together.

Disable Pulse Option

Since signal bulbs or LEDs are apparently to be permanently set here, the Pulse option must be switched off (see the Help option for this tab).

The "Impulse" option, on the other hand, describes whether, in the case of a signal or a switch that occupies both contacts of the output (normal case), the new contact should only be switched on briefly (impulse) or permanently when switching from one contact to the other.
